Between 2003-07 I volunteered at animal rescue centres in Barbados, Sri Lanka, Japan, Venezuela and Italy with many different animals from cats and dogs to hawksbill turtles and elephants. I swam with dolphins in Costa Rica and went on to learn about photographing and filming wildlife in 2007-10.
As a keen traveller and observer, working at animal centres abroad gave me endless inspiration for writing about my travels. I started to wonder where my volunteer work fitted into the world; my boxes of photo albums and many ides for feature stories. I'm now exploring fully the human-animal bond.

Me and Monita
Below are two videos of Monita, the red howler monkey I cared for in Venezuela in 2004. Her parents were both shot and killed, so that she could be sold. When her new owner couldn't sell her or became bored of her, she was abandoned. At the rescue centre I took her into the jungle daily, teaching her to eat leaves and making sure she had her favourite food - bananas! Monita is now called Emma, she lives free in the trees in Venezuela with her male partner, Marco. I couldn't be happier that finally she is free.
