Anthrozoology
I studied for a Postgraduate Certificate in Anthrozoology (human-animal studies), most interested in how imagery and creativity affects our perceptions of animals. In the past I've been an avid volunteer at wildlife rescue centres, having worked in Barbados, Sri Lanka, Japan, Venezuela and Italy with many different animals from chimps and macaws to hawksbill turtles and elephants. I swam with dolphins in Costa Rica and went on to learn both how to photograph and film the wildlife I love. In 210 I ran the Great Gorilla Run through London and raised more than £800 for the mountain gorilla.
If you'd like help with a written, photographic or online project that relates to art, nature or wildlife, contact me on animaltheory@gmail.com for a copy of my CV and a quote.
Me and Monita
Below are two videos of Monita, the red howler monkey I cared for in Venezuela in 2004. Her parents were both shot and killed, so that she could be sold. When her new owner couldn't sell her or became bored of her, she was abandoned. At the rescue centre I took her into the jungle daily, teaching her to eat leaves and making sure she had her favourite food - bananas! Monita is now called Emma, she lives free in the trees in Venezuela with her male partner, Marco. I couldn't be happier that finally she is free.
